Intention
Last December our colleague and friend Tom Wilson celebrated his 65th birthday. During Tom's fruitful career in Astronomy, he has made important contributions to the understanding of the physical and chemical properties of the interstellar medium and the processes leading to star formation. In the last years, Tom has contributed to making ALMA become a reality. We therefore want to honor him with a two day (16th and 17th of June, 2008) workshop on the topic of ''Interstellar Medium and Star formation with ALMA'', to be held in the center of Madrid (Spain).
The workshop is devoted to review recent progress in our understanding of the physical properties and chemical composition of the Interstellar Matter and of how stars (both high and low mass) as well as sub-stellar objects are forming. Topics to be covered include molecular clouds, clumps, cores, outflows, stellar cluster formation in galactic and extragalactic environments from mainly an observational prospective. A forward look to the promise of ALMA will be made.
The goal is to have invited and contributed talks covering the above mentioned topics. The workshop is limited by the capacity of the conference room. Some seats have been reserved for Tom's former students, invited speakers, etc..., so the number of additional participants that can register is 25.You can apply for travel funds to the MEC2 and/or to RadioNet.
